This cake was made for my grandfather’s 80th Birthday party. He always wanted to have a Mercedes but in this case it was a cake. I have made many different cakes for him in past few years like a tool box, an airplane, a shirt cake ( yes my grandfather always wears a collared shirt! no wonder why I love man in shirts!) Little more about my grandfather…
My grandfather is one of the most interesting people in this world. When he was young he wanted to be a pilot but due to his color blindness he couldn’t so he became an engineer. When I was a little girl he was telling me stories about airplanes and cosmos. To this day I still think I could’ve become an astronaut ( in the reality I get a horrible motion sickness, I can’t even sit in the back seat! )but I would become one if I could especially after incredible stories that he told me.
Growing in a family of teachers and only one engineer, it was a lot more fun to deal with my grandpa,we used to put things together with him and build stuff around the house. Have I mentioned that he build our kitchen back in Kiev, yes! Every single drawer, every door, he made it all with his own hands. Whenever he was fixing stuff around the house me and my sister were around him. Oh yes we build stuff all the time together. The excitement I had when I could get into his tool box! I still do. I remember him explaining physics to me and how things work and why they work in this specific way. He is very technical and very proper on how things should be made. Today if I have a mechanical questions or structural questions I come to him for a suggestion or idea of how to make a specific thing. He taught us well and it explains our knowledge basic plumbing, some DIY capability and a use of power tools. The only thing I don’t deal with is gas and electricity, unless it’s small voltage LED lights
One of the most important lessons I learned from him is this: if you don’t know somethings learn about it, if you don’t know how to make something, get a book ( in today’s world google it) but learn how to make it and make it as best as you can, never stop trying to learn new things and how they work, of and don’t forget to ask for help from your grandfather maybe he can make it for you.
I love you so much DEDUSHKA! Happy 80th Birthday!
