Let Them Eat Cake 2015 Wedding Cake Competition for City of Hope.
We had an opportunity to compete this year again. This is is a very fun event for Tri-State area. The theme was “Masterpieces of Cake”.
Our very talented team created what represented our view of the theme. We all love Art-Deco and 1920’s fashion.
The bottom tier was decorated in a arrow like pattern, which was actually a marble tile pattern that I found for inspiration online. Each silver and gold alternating sugar dragees were individually attached, fondant on the cake was dusted with various shades of grey and beige luster dusts.
Second tier was a hexagon cake, I just love different shapes in wedding cake it brings extra depth to the cake. We applied art-deco inspired applique and hand painted it gold and silver.
Third tier was decorated in minty green color fondant and we kept it nice and clean.
Fourth tier was actually a separator between the tiers and was made out of gumpaste little cones with sugar crystals inserted along with led lights behind them to light up the crystals.
Fifth tier was decorated in chevron tier and screamed art deco colors all over it, ivory, gold, silver and black.
Sixth tier was decorated in hand piped pearl and each pearl was individually painted with silver dust. The pearls were hanging on the cake and were individually attached to fishing wire. Beautiful pinkish coral sugar rose was the cherry on the top of the cake along with sugar fan and ostrich feathers.
The flavor we provided for the judges was champagne cake with peach mousse and vanilla bean buttercream.
I am extremely proud of our team, so many hours and ideas went into this cake. Even thought we did not win this year but it’s not about that. Thank you City of Hope for organizing this event each year. Till next time!
